Big Read (Fences)

This is a series of activities and art exhibits, showings, and activities around the reading of a single book by the people of Monterey County.  This year’s selection is “Citizen” a collection of poetry presented in an innovative way. It deals with the realities of being a member of a community of color in modern America.

This movie, starring Denzel Washington, is a reflection of life lived in urban America by a struggling black man. Filled with his attempts at and frustrations with coping with his role in post World War II society. One of August Wilson’s best.
