It means “picnic” in Spanish but these days it’s not so much a picnic as a party. Usually about 500 people attend and they celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the city of Monterey in 1770. (You do the math.) There is BBQ, cake, beverages, and a celebratory atmosphere. A genuine piece of Monterey culture, attended by lots of local celebrities and politicians.
