Salinas City Regional Heritage Center

The Salinas California Welcome Center is located at the historic Southern Pacific Freight Depot at Salinas City Heritage Park next to the Center of Downtown Salinas. As a regional heritage center, it now features its first exhibit, “Postcards, Passengers, and Produce,” which tells the story of how the 4th largest economy in the world and the most populous state in the nation were developed in only 175 years. The Southern Pacific Company not only provided transportation but also served as an integrated marketing company, acting as an economic engine for California’s development. Visit the Welcome Center to view postcards that the Southern Pacific Railroad used to attract farmers and other visitors to California, discover historically significant artifacts, learn about the evolution of crops, and the family-owned businesses that have now become global leaders.

At the Welcome Center, you’ll find detailed information on where to eat and stay, as well as a host of other options on what to do. We offer a variety of promotional materials, including brochures and souvenirs, as well as a unique selection of local items that you can take home as a memento of your visit. Our friendly staff is always ready to answer your questions.

The Center features a diverse array of artifacts and collectors’ items highlighting the history of the Central Coast. You’ll find easily accessible literature and intriguing items that collectively capture the essence of the region.

Conveniently located near the Amtrak Station in Salinas, at 1 Station Place, the Welcome Center is easily accessible.
