Garlic is what’s happening in Gilroy. It’s known as the Garlic Capital of the World and home to an annual Garlic Festival. Roll your windows down as you drive anywhere through town and you’ll get a whiff of this aromatic bulbous member of the onion family. The growing of garlic has been happening since the late 1800s in this part of the Santa Clara Valley, so be sure to stop at any of the roadside markets to check out the myriad of garlic-based products on the shelves.
Not too far out of town is Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park, one man’s dream to create a place of beauty that epitomized his love of plants and trees. From Circus Trees to water features to rides and attractions, this is one of those family-friendly places that’s just plain fun.
The historic downtown section is a vibrant mix of unique restaurants, wine bars, antique shops, specialty stores and more. For a different type of visitor experience, spend a day at Gilroy Premium Outlets which features the largest collection of designer and brand name outlet stores in Northern California.
